Premier Digital Imaging exams
Do I need a premier eye exam?
It is highly recommended that you receive a comprehensive eye exam each year. The Premier Digital Imaging exam using retinal imaging technology helps your eye doctor monitor changes in your vision and health each year by allowing them to keep digital images on file. Early detection is key to the successful treatment of many vision and health problems.
Is the premier eye exam necessary for my kids?
Many vision problems begin at an early age, so it's important for children to receive proper eye care from the time they are infants. Retinal imaging provides a more detailed view of the back of the eye than traditional methods. Our doctors recommend the Premier Digital Imaging exam because the retinal evaluation is a key component of a comprehensive eye exam, regardless of your age or how well you see.
Retinal Imaging
Is retinal imaging better than dilation?
Retinal imaging has advantages over traditional dilation. It is able to capture HD 3-D images of your retina that allow the doctor to see over 80% of your retina, including the layers below the surface. These images remain in your file and are used to compare year-over-year of eye health changes to help detect problems as early as possible.
Additionally, the Premier Digital Imaging exam provides a more efficient experience without the side effects that come with dilation such as stinging, blurry vision, and light sensitivity. This exam can be completed in under 2 minutes.
Note: In rare cases, the eye doctor may still recommend having your eyes dilated during your visit.
Is retinal imaging covered under my insurance?
There are some Managed Vision Care plans that do cover digital retinal imaging as part of a routine eye exam. However, in general, most carriers do not. The fee for both of these tests is quite affordable and is a worthwhile investment into something as important as your vision. Ask your eye doctor when setting up your next appointment for specific pricing. If you participate in an HSA or FSA as part of your insurance plan, these tests are covered procedures.
Is retinal imaging safe?
Absolutely! Nothing touches the eye at any time. You will see a comfortable flash of light indicating the image has been captured. These tools use low-intensity light and soundwaves to create digital images of the retinal surface and layers below.
